Abstract

This article analyses the nature and types of theories and methods in the articles about family published in the sociological journals in Turkey from 2004 to2014. All the articles related to family were identified and analyzed which were published in the Journal of Sociology (Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters), Family and Society (T.C. Ministry of Family and Social Policies, General Directorate of Family and Community Services), Sociological Research e-Journal (Hacettepe University), Istanbul Journal of Sociological Studies (Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics) and Journal of Sociological Research (Sociological Association). Meta-theoretical framework of Ritzer is utilized to classify the material. Articles were analyzed according to the following dimensions: type of article, theory, methods, object of the study. The content analysis shows that the sociology of family cannot be characterized by a single theory but social fact paradigm dominated theoretical framework.
