Effects of intraocular lens (IOL) and\or capsullar tension ring (CTR) usage in prevention of posterior capsullar opasification (PCO) formation in rabbits were studied with ophthalmascopic and histopathologic parameters. Lensectomy by phacoemulsification tecnique in 60 eyes of 30 healthy New Zealand rabbits were made. 30 rabbits were divided into 3 groups. In first group (n=10) IOL is placed after lensectomy, in second group (n=10) CTR and in third group (n=10) IOL+CTR is placed in the right eyes after lensectomy. Ophthalmascopic examinations were made in postoperative period and at the end of the 6 months the rabbits arc evaluated with histopathology. In histopathologic examination fibrocyte and fibroblast migration and lens epithelium cell proliferations which are signs of the PCO is less commonly seen in CTR\IOL group. After lensectomy with phacoemulsification long term effects of cm and\or IOL, in prevention of PCO was investigated. In conclusion CTR\IOL group was found to be succesfull in prevention of PCO formation.
