Özet

The scope of this investigation is to illustrate the applicability of liquid limit (LL) data obtained directly from the fall cone test to determine the plastic limit (PL) of soils. Eighty-seven inorganic soils were subjected to fall cone and plate rolling tests to determine their LL and PL, respectively. Two approaches of flow line constants of LL data versus the PL values and all the water contents with corresponding penetration depths versus the PL values were taken into consideration through multiple regression analyses. The mathematical models obtained from the statistical analyses demonstrate that the latter predicts the PL of soils more successfully and with greater accuracy. The models generated enable predicting both the PL and the LL from the results of a single fall cone test.
