Disease of the thyroid gland is widespread.Thyroid diseases that have anesthetic inference include hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism requiring thyroidectomy. Patiews with uncontrolled myxoedema, or those with uncontrolled hyperthyroidism presenting as an emergency, are at significant risk. Anaesthesia for thyroidectomy may be complicated by difficult airway managements. For these reasons anaesthesist should, therefore, pay particular attention to preoperative evaluation of the airway and should be able to deal with acute airway complications in the perioperative period.
