Özet

Background: Melasma is a dermatosis characterized by symmetric, hyperpigmented macules, which is located on the areas that exposed to UV light such as forehead, malar prominences, upper lip and less frequently on the forearms an legs. Patients and method: In our study, the topical efficacy of the 20% azelaic acid+0.25% tretinoin combination, 20 % azelaic acid, 0.25 % tretinoin, 4% hydroquinone and sunscreen (SPF 15) groups; are studied comperatively for six to eleven months in melasma treatment. Results: There was no statistical differences between topical 4% hydroquinone, 20% azelaic acid, 0.25% tretinoin and 20% azelaic acid+0.25% tretinoin combination when these groups are evaluated with their lesion severity index before treatment and after treatment (p>0.05). Thus, the pigmentation index of these groups are compared, there was no difference between 20% azelaic acid, 0.25% tretinoin and 20% azelaic acid+0.25% tretinoin combination but these groups were more effective when compared to 4% hydroquinone alone (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our study revealed that 20% azelaic acid, 0.25% tretinoin and 20% azelaic acid+0.25% tretinoin combination are equally effective on the lesion severity index but more effective on the pigmentation score when compared with 4% hydroquinone within a long survey.
