Percutaneous disc decompression techniques are effective in reducing low back and leg pain resulting from symptomatic disc herniation. Percutaneous disc decompression includes minimally invasive techniques such as chemonucleolysis, percutaneous discectomy, intradiscal laser discectomy, intradiscal radiofrequency ablation, intradiscal electrothermal annuloplasty and percutaneous lumbar nucleoplasty. The success rate of these techniques can be improved by proper patient selection and in the view of the complications. There are always risks of recurrence of herniation, disc instabilization and accelerated degeneration.
