This study is concerned with the electrochemical reduction of some benzaldehyde- and salicylaldehyde-type Schiff bases on Pt electrode in acetonitrile using cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and ultra-microelectrode techniques. Cyclic voltammetric data reveal that the reduction on Pt is irreversible, and that it follows an EC mechanism. The diffusion coefficients and the number of electrons transferred were determined using chronoamperometric Cottrell slope and ultra-microelectrode steady-state current. Based on these findings, two mechanisms for the electro-reduction processes are proposed.
