Özet

Reaching to the first quarter of the twenty-first century, collecting function of the museums has led to various debates about how to create a more democratic collection. In this context, it has come to our attention that what is important and valuable is to gather objects that represent only a segment of society. The protection function of the museum, has begun to be questioned as to why and for what purpose objects should be protected. Along with the discussion of these questions, the basic question of the field of museology came back to the agenda: "How does the museum relate to other institutions in society?". This question has led to significant paradigm shifts in museology, primarily due to political and economic factors and globalization, and the view that the museum is not just about object collections has been recognized as the most important change in museology. The fact that collection-oriented museum approaches and practices are shifted to audience-oriented strategies and that audience participation takes its place in exhibition, event, communication, education and sustainability applications of the museum is among the fundamental changes. The most important purpose of this change is to convert the days in which the society changed the museum, which started with the modern museum, into "days when the museum would change society". As the museum transforms society, an important aspect of social change for the museum and its educational function is the developments in information technology. The increase in the speed and volume of information technology has also resulted in the provision of one-way messages in the field of museology, the inevitable diversity of the museums which is reflected to the audience, the redefinition of various concepts through museums and the works of the museums with eternal search and identity crisis. Despite these developments, the renovation of museum definition and functions proceed, as it includes real objects, considering the feature which endeavors the audience to learn based on regressions, to produce their own meanings, to inquire based on the real object and make new interpretations. This study focuses how museums in Turkey respond to the new pursuits and paradigm changes faced in international museum community.
