Combinatorial chemistry has become an important tool for design and discovery of novel chemical molecules. This technique allows for the production of large numbers of different molecules simultaneously. Pharmaceutical industries use combinatorial chemistry to create libraries of organic molecules for drug screening and lead optimisation. This review takes a look at the determination of combinatorial chemistry, generating of combinatorial libraries, solid, liquid and solution phase synthesis, synthesis technologies and High Throughput Screening (HTS) methodology which is used in pharmaceutical and biotechnological research and mostly as a complemental to the combinatorial chemistry applications.
