Özet

The aim of this study is to determine Gross Margin of milk production in Trakya region. The main material of this research was primary data collected by survey from 85 representative farms selected by simple random sampling method. The data obtained for 2007 production year were evaluated at average herd bases, and compared in terms of herd size (1-5 heads, 6-9 heads and > 9 heads) and cow breeds (culture and crossbreed). According to research results, in the farms there were 5.5 suckling cows and 10 Large Animal Unit in the average. The milk production were 32 tons per farm and 5.8 tons per sucking cow during lactation period. Of the total farms, 65% had 1-5 head, 21% had 6-9 head and 14% had 10 head and above sucking cows. Of the total variable costs, the feed cost was the highest as 86%. The veterinary-medicine (5.6%), artificial insemination (2.1%), electric (2%), water (1.9%) and variable labor (1.3%) were followed, respectively. It was calculated that Gross Production Value per sucking cow was 4688 TL for culture breed and 4913 TL for crossbreed. Gross Margin in the culture breed (2872 TL) was lower than crossbreed (3671 TL) because of higher variable costs in the culture breed. As evaluating according to farm size groups, in the smallest farms which was 1-5 head and in the middle farms (6-9 head) suckling cows the farms had cross breed Gross Margin were higher than cultural breeds farm. On the other hand big (10 head and above) farms, Gross margin was higher in the farms had cultural breed than crossbreed.
