Prof. Dr. Veli Erdoğan graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Horticulture in 1987, where his research carrier was started as a research assistant in 1998. He received M.Sc. degree in 1989 on Research on transportation of walnut pollen by wind. He attended the Master's Degree program (1990-1991) at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH) in Crete, Greece. With the Graduate Research Assistantship scholarship from the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University in USA (1994-1999) he completed his doctoral studies, and received Ph.D degree on Genetic Relationships among Hazelnut Species. He completed compulsory military service a Second Lieutenant (1999-2000). He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2006 and to full Professor in 2011. He has been working on tree fruit growing and breeding, primarily focusing on tree-nut crops. He has authored numerous research papers, books and chapters, and was editor for books and chapters. He was the co-editor for horticulture section in Journal of Agricultural Sciences. He has been serving as a Hazelnut Liaison Officer (FAO-CIHEAM Networks on Nuts) since 2014 and as a Working Groups Hazelnut Chair (ISHS, Division Temperate Tree Nuts) since 2025.
