Özet
Introduction. - Predictors of impaired quality of life (QoL) among asthmatic subjects are not completely understood. The aim of this study is to evaluate the demographic and clinical factors affecting QoL.Methods. - Adults who had a diagnosis of asthma for at least 1 year and applied to allergy and pulmonology clinic were included in the study. The accuracy of subjects' inhaler techniques were evaluated by the clinicians. Medication adherence was assessed with 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS8). QoL of patients was evaluated with 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36). Relationship between the data collected and SF-36 subscale scores were evaluated.Results. - One hundred forty-eight (113 female) asthmatics (mean age; standard deviation: 48.34; 12.81 years) were included in the study. As subjects' age increased physical functioning subscale scores decreased (r = -0.252, P < 0.01). As body mass index increased physical functioning subscale scores (r = -0.362, P < 0.01), physical role limitations (r = -0.240, P < 0.01), social functioning (r = -0.168, P < 0.05), and general health perceptions subscale scores (r=-0.331, P < 0.01) decreased. As asthma control decreased physical functioning (r = -0.396, P < 0.01), physical role limitations (r = -0.336, P < 0.001), emotional role limitations (r =-0.244, P < 0.001), energy/vitality (r =-0.183, P < 0.05), bodily pain (r =-0.453, P < 0.01), and general health perceptions subscale scores (r = -0.270, P < 0.01) increased. As MMAS-8 scores increased, mental health subscale scores increased (r = 0.163, P < 0,05). Multivariate regression analysis revealed that patients with poorly controlled asthma had lower physical function and bodily pain subscale scores.Conclusion. - Level of asthma control is associated with QoL in asthmatics.(c) 2023 Societe francaise d'allergologie.
