Platies (Xiphophorus maculatus), goldfish (Carassius auratus), angelfish (Pterophyllurn scalare) and guppies (Poecilia reticulata) imported into Turkey between October 2004 and March 2005 were examined for the metacercarial cysts of Centrocestus formosanus. Metacercariae of C. formosanus were only found encysted on the gills of examined fish. The prevalence of metacercarial cysts ranged from 10% to 50% depending on fish species. The occurrence of C. formosanus represents a conservation threat for the fish fauna in Turkey. This is the first report of infection with metacercariae of C. formosanus in Turkey.
