The organization and functioning of the planning in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have great similarities with Turkey. In 1976, the State Planning Organization was established as taking as an example the State Planning Organization in Turkey. But the neo-liberalism phenomenon and the free market system has brought significant changes in the concept of planning both in Turkey and TRNC. This new concept of planning, which has been felt noticeably in the European Union accession process since 2000s, has led to significant transformations in SPO. This study claims that, although the SPO's understanding of planning has some differences due to its own administration, economic and political structure of Cyprus, has great similarity with structure, functioning and transformation of planning organization in Turkey.
