During the past few years, in pharmaceutical researchs much attention has been given to the controlled release of systemic drugs. By the use of this approach, controlling the therapeutic efficacy of drugs, a reduction in the total dose needed and also a reduction in the side effects can be provided. Microsponge systems that will be investigated are systems of porous, polymeric microspheres. The present article provides a general overview of definition , production technologies, parameters and possible application areas of microsponges.
