Abstract

In vitro susceptibilities of urine culture isolates; E.coli, Klebsiella Proteus, Pseudomonas species, non fermentative bacteriae other than Pseudomonas and Staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase negative staphylococci) isolated from hospitalized patients were tested against ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, ceftriaxone, cefoperazone/sulbactam, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, amikacin, gentamycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and imipenem by disk diffusion test. Amoxicillin/clavulanate was effective in 35-70% of E.coli, Klebsiella and Proteus isolates, and ceftriaxone was effective in 70-89% of these bacteria. Quinolones were found effective about 83% against the same isolates while Pseudomonas species and other non fermentatives were more resistant. Amoxicillin/clavulanate, quinolones and imipenem were the most effective antibiotics against staphylococcal isolates among the agents tested.
