Dr. Fulya Akbuğa completed her primary, secondary, and high school education at TED Ankara College before graduating from the Department of Journalism at Ankara University, Faculty of Communication. She completed internships as a reporter at Hürriyet Newspaper and Kent TV. She received her master's degree from the Department of Sociology at Middle East Technical University (METU) and earned her Ph.D. in the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, Ankara University.
Dr. Akbuğa began her professional broadcasting career in 1996 as a DJ at Capital Radio. She served for many years as the Training Coordinator at Radio METU, where she gained a wide audience with her radio program Office Escapee (Ofis Kaçkını).
She began her television career in 2002 with the program Ezgi Günü, broadcast on TRT. She later hosted Üniversitem on TRT 2 and Yarışalım Eğlenelim on TRT 1.
Between 2004 and 2005, she worked as a news anchor and television presenter at Kanal B. During this period, she received professional training from distinguished broadcasting professionals including Jülide Gülizar, Gülgûn Feyman, and Rahmi Aygün.
In 2005, she returned to Radio METU as Training Coordinator and Program Producer. From this period onward, she focused primarily on education, delivering training programs and workshops on broadcasting and effective public speaking.
In 2008, she was awarded a scholarship by the National Press Center and covered the U.S. Presidential Elections in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
In 2009, she joined the founding broadcast team of TRT Türk, serving as one of the presenters and editors of the program Haberdar. In the same year, she produced and hosted Şehrin Nabzı, a culture and arts program broadcast on TRT Ankara Radio. She also produced and presented the radio programs Şehir Atlası and Sabah Kahvesi.
Between 2010 and 2013, she hosted the live weekday television program Stüdyo Avaz on TRT Avaz. During the summer seasons, the program continued under the title Yaz Sohbetleri.
Dr. Akbuğa received the METU Media Award for Best DJ in both 2012 and 2013.
From 2014 to 2015, she hosted and moderated the live weekday sports programs Spora Dair and Sporun Merkezi on TRT Spor.
Throughout her broadcasting career, which largely consisted of live radio and television programs, she interviewed hundreds of distinguished guests from the fields of science, politics, arts, and sports. Through her training programs, she has shared her professional experience with university students and young media professionals.
For students at her alma mater, Ankara University Faculty of Communication, she developed communication training programs in areas such as Radio and Television Speaking Techniques, Effective and Professional Speaking, and Radio Broadcasting.
Between 2016 and 2017, she hosted the news program Dışa Bakış on TRT Radio News.
In 2019, she presented the television program Ne Yapmalı?, produced by TRT Türk for Turkish citizens living abroad. In 2021, she hosted the health program Sağlıklı Günler on TRT Avaz.
Dr. Akbuğa has delivered seminars on public speaking, broadcasting, effective communication, and protocol at numerous institutions and organizations, including Ankara University, the Turkish Education Association (TED), the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, METU Continuing Education Center, İŞKUR, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, as well as various universities and private-sector organizations.
She currently serves as a Lecturer at Ankara University, where she teaches communication courses, hosts the university's official protocol ceremonies, continues her work as a presenter and voice-over artist, and pursues her academic career through teaching and scholarly publications in the field of communication.
Her first book, I'm Not Afraid of Public Speaking: Practical Advice for Those Who Want to Speak in Public, was published by Perseus Publishing in 2022. Her second book, My Job Is Speaking, was published in 2024. Her third book, Digital Mirror, based on her doctoral dissertation, was published in 2025.
