Özet:Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa "Leopar" adlı eserinde, sadece İtalyan birliğinin sağlandığı yıllara dikkat çekmekle kalmaz, aynı zamanda Sicilya'daki sosyal ve ekonomik şartları düzelteceğine dair boş vaatlerle Ada'ya çıkarma yapan son yabancı işgalini ve Sicilya'nın yüzyıllardır tekerrür eden tarihini de gözler önüne serer. Yazar, İtalyan edebiyatında Verga, De Roberto, Pirandello ve Sciascia gibi Sicilya'nın birliğe katılımı sürecinde yaşanan gerçeklere eserinde yer vermiştir. Ancak, sözü edilen bu yazarlardan farklı olarak Tomasi di Lampedusa'nın eserinde tarih, eserin konusunu değil, arka planını oluşturmaktadır. Yazar, "Leopar" adlı eserinde milli birleşme sürecini bir aristokratın gözünden yansıtmış ve aristokrasinin burjuvazi karşısındaki çöküşünü satırlarına taşımıştır. Bununla birlikte Tomasi di Lampedusa, kendisinin de bir üyesi olduğu aristokrasinin iki yüzlülüğünü ve çıkarcılığını ortaya koymaktan çekinmemiş, Sicilya'daki olumsuz yaşam şartlarının yabancı egemenlikler ve burjuvazi kadar aristokrasiden de kaynaklandığının altını önemle çizmiştir. Bu bağlamda, "Leopar" adlı eserde Sicilya'nın birliğe katılımı sürecinde yaşanan toplumsal dalgalanmalarla birlikte aristokrasinin çöküşü, burjuvazinin yükselişi, Sicilya halkının yüzyıllardır değişmeyen sefaleti ve ölüm kavramı özgün bir dil aracılığıyla yansıtılmıştır. Eserdeki olaylarla birlikte belirgin tasvirler, metaforlar ve ağır tarihi yargılar dikkat çekicidir. Eserin özündeki ölüm kavramını ortaya koymak ve eserin İtalyan edebiyatındaki yerini irdelemek oldukça büyük önem taşımaktadır.AbstractIn his work of art named "Leopard" Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa not only draws attention to the years in which Italian Unity is established, but also displays the history of the last foreign occupation with the futile promises to improve the social and economic circumstances of the Island and the history of Sicily, that repeats itself in centuries. In Italian literature, not only Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa but also other writers like Verga, De Roberto, Pirandello e Sciascia elaborated on the realities that are experienced during the process in which Sicily joins the Union. However, different from the writers mentioned, in the work of Tomasi di Lampedusa, history does not constitute the subject of the work, it constitutes the background. In his work "Leopard", the writer reflects the process of the unity from the perspective of an aristocrat and in his lines he carries the decline of aristocracy against bourgeoisie. Moreover, Tomasi di Lampedusa did not hesitate to demonstrate the hypocrisy and the opportunism of the aristocracy that he is also a member of and highlighted the fact that the negative living conditions are a result of not only the foreign dominance and the bourgeoisie, but also a consequence of aristocracy. In this context, in the work "Leopard" both the social changes that occur during the process of joining the Sicilian Union and the decline of aristocracy, the rise of bourgeoisie, the unchanged misery of Sicilian people throughout centuries and the notion of death is reflected through an authentic language. Along with the events in the work, clear descriptions, metaphors and serious historical judgements are attention grabbing. Exposing the concept of death and pointing out the place of this book in Italian literature is of great importance.
