Özet:1950'li yılların başından günümüze kadar gelen Avrupa Birliği entegrasyon süreci, zaman içerisinde gerçekleşen genişleme ve derinleşme aşamalarıyla birlikte bir hayli yol kat etmiştir. Günümüze kadar gelişerek devam eden yolculuk boyunca ise Birlik ve Birliği oluşturan üye ülkeler birçok sınamayla karşı karşıya kalmışlar; bu sınamalarsa bazı dönemlerde Birliği zora sokmuştur. Çalışmada Avrupa Birliği entegrasyon süreci, hem genişleme hem de derinleşme süreçleri bakımından ele alınmakta ve son noktada Lizbon Antlaşması'yla sisteme dâhil olan "Birlik'ten Ayrılma Hakkı" bağlamında incelenmektedir. Yasal olarak ilk kez tanınan bu hakla birlikte yaşanan gelişmeler ve bu hakkı ilk kez kullanan Birleşik Krallık'ta yaşanan süreç, başından sonuna kadar anlatılmaktadır. Ortaya çıkan bilgiler ışığında ise yaşanan Brexit sürecinin hem Birleşik Krallık ve hem de Avrupa Birliği entegrasyon süreci üzerinde yaratması muhtemel olan etkiler ortaya konmaktadır. The integration process of the European Union that has been in place since the beginning of the 1950s, has come a long way with the expansion and deepening stages. During the ongoing and developing process to the present day, the Union and its member states faced many challenges; these challenges have put the Union into trouble in some periods. In this study, the European Union integration process is examined in terms of both enlargement and the deepening processes provided by the founding and amending agreements, and in the last instance, in context of the "Right to Abandon the Union" which is adopted to the system by the recent Lisbon Treaty. Developments as a result of legally recognition of this right for the first time and the process in the United Kingdom, which uses this right for the first time in the history, is described from beginning to end. In light of the findings set forth, the expectative impacts of the Brexit process on both the United Kingdom and the integration process of European Union is presented.
