Özet:Bu çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı Sultanı II. Mehmed'in küçük oğlu olan Şehzâde Cem'in, kardeşi II. Bayezid ile girdiği taht mücadelesinden yenik ayrılması sonucu Avrupaya gitmesi ve ölümüne kadar Avrupa'da geçirmiş olduğu hayatı anlatmaktır. Yapılmış olan çalışmanın konusu ve dönemi itibarıyla veri ve kaynak olarak Osmanlı Kroniklerine ağırlık verilmiştir. Bilhassa Sultan Cem'in Avrupa yolculuğu esnasında yanında olduğu anlaşılan Haydar Bey'in Vâkıât-ı Sultân Cem adlı eseri ağırlıklı olarak kullanılmıştır. Gözlemlenen ve irdelenen bulgular şunlardır; Şehzade Cem'in yaşanılan olaylara bakış açısı, geçtiği yabancı şehirlerdeki fiziki ve kültürel değerlere olan tavrı, kardeşi Bayezid'e olan tutumu, batılı hükümdarlarla arasındaki diyaloglar ve zaman geçtikçe iktidar hevesinin azalması durumudur. Tüm bunların ışığında Cem vakâsına gerek garp dünyası bakış açısından gerek Osmanlı perspektifinden bakılmaya çalışılmıştır. The Ottoman Sultan II. Mehmet had two sons. Among two princes, Cem Sultan was the youngest and the II. Bayezid was the oldest. These two princes had a fight for throne which is lost by Cem Sultan. This study aims to investigate the life of Cem Sultan starting from his movement to Europe upon his defeat on throne till his death. Taking into account the theme of thesis and the studied time period Ottoman chronic are extensively used. Particularly Vâkıât-ı Sultan Cem by Haydar Bey is believed to be accompany Cem Sultan during his trip to Europe. The observed and examined findings in this thesis are: The viewpoint of prince Cem on facts, the attitude of prince Cem on phsical and cultural values of foreign cities visited by him, his attitude toward his brother prince II. Bayezid, the dialogue between prince Cem and Europe rulers. At the same time, the decrease in Cem Sultan's passion for political power is in the scope of this thesis. To conclude, the historical circumstances related to Cem Sultan was throughly examined not only from the perspective of western World but also from the Ottoman perspective.
