Özet:Abstract: The dusk and dawn phenomena occured during sunset and sunrise which define twomajor prayer times in Islam, namely, isha and fajr, are formed by the gradualillumination of terrestrial atmosphere by refracted light of the Sun depending on itscelestial position below horizon. Such systematic studies of atmospheric brightnessvariations at dusk and dawn times based on modern CCD dedectors are too rare in theliterature. In the present thesis, observations of horizontal brightness variations occuring throughthe dusk and dawn (the fajr) events which are very essential with respect to Islamicjurisprudence terms, are analyzed on the basis of some statistical techniques. As theresult of observational studies, it is shown that the expiration time of the dusk and thebeginning moment of the dawn, i.e., the fajr, are fully consistent with the definition ofastronomical twilight.
