Özet:

Abstract Germans interested in Islamic mysticism as an academic discipline especially on the 19th century and afterwards. They have published many works on the subject. In this work German orientalists are explained in the light of the information that has been found related to their lives. Sufism is not the only interest of the orientalists who have published about Sufism but they also are interested in other Islamic sciences, and they have also worked in these other fields. Abstracting their publications only in Sufism and not in other fields of research will disturb the integrity of the life of the Orientalists therefore their whole publications are considered in this work. Thus it has been seen that they have published less in Islamic mysticism (except Annemarie Schimmel) in comparison to the other Islamic research fields. When the works of the Germans on Sufism were examined, it is seen that their work has started from translation of the mystical poetry to into a wide range of sects which extend from a sociological perspective, the examination determined in the course of history. In general many German orientalists have searched the origins of Sufism in the mystical beliefs context in India, and they did notaccept that its roots are adopted from Quran and the Sunnah. Despite they have written their Works in Sufism under certain assumptions, and they approached negatively to parts of Sufism which conflict to the scientific research method, their contribution to Sufism by means of its recognition in the Western World is accountable. Western World has recognized great Islamic philosophes, and they have opened a door to the Islamic values.
