Abstract:Data recovery process is the main subject of computer forensics examinations. In all over the world, at computer forensics examinations closed source software are widely used by governmental agencies. In this workout, we tried to prove wheather open source software can be used together with closed ones in computer forensics examinations. In the workout, within the same brand but different 5 USB flash drives, created 5 different situations and saved 10 different kinds of files, then tried to recovery data from them. Conclusions evaluated with SPSS v15.0 program and be shown with tables and graphs. It is found that closed source software have statistically higher file recovery success ratio than open source ones (p=0,000). There found meaningfull differences about data recovery, between all of the software. Computer forensics examinations? success has a direct proportion with data recovery process. As a conclusion of the workout, we have an opinion of using closed and open source software together with the data recovery process can result detailed and positive effects. As well as technology provide ease and more freedom to users, also informatics is developing and becoming dissimilar. On the subject of data recovery, it will be helpful to make more workouts with different software and media types.
