Abstract:Mongolia was under the influence of China and Russia throughout history and it has entered into the process of integration with Western democratization and free market economy following the Cold War period. During Cold War, Mongolia was dependent mainly on the Soviet Union's foreign economic aid and tried to improve its economy through these aids. After the Cold War, by means of the ''Third Neighborhood Policy'', Mongolia started to receive foreign aids from other regional and global powers, mainly from the United States, from the European Union and from Japan. This study examines foreign aid relations of Mongolia with China, Russia and with the US in the post-Cold War era. The scope and relevance of the aid received from these three countries was examined briefly as they constituted an important dimension of contemporary Mongolian foreign policy. The study has tried to argue that foreign aid has become one of the major determinants of Mongolian foreign policy in the post-Cold War period as it has increased the importance of the country in the eyes of its neighbors and of the United States. Key words: Mongolia, foreign aid, foreign policy
