Proje Özeti

TAMIRAG will develop and test innovative management solutions and guidelines to promote efficient water and energy use and sustainable, secure food throughout the agricultural water value chain. Solutions will be assessed through an innovative, integrated eco-efficiency approach, based on a clearly defined set of technical, economic, environmental, and social indicators, incorporated into a functional interdisciplinary web platform. It will raise awareness and train producers and consumers on wastewater use, while engaging all actors and decision-makers in developing innovative governance tools and approaches. The entire value chain will be considered from the wastewater treatment plant to irrigated land to agricultural product consumers. Technical, economic, environmental, social, health, legal, governance, and institutional aspects of treated wastewater use will be addressed in implementation. Innovations will concern wastewater treatment, smart irrigation technologies, and best practices for water/nutrient recovery, water/energy/nutrient saving, sustainable food safety and security, and reducing health hazards and environmental burden. Testing and evaluation will be carried out at four test sites in Lebanon, Tunisia, Portugal, and Turkey. Knowledge and experience from field research will feed into the interdisciplinary platform serving as a collaborative decision-support and capacity-building tool for practitioners and policymakers. Comprehensive policy guidelines for eco-efficient wastewater use in agriculture will be developed to strengthen Mediterranean policies and foster technology uptake with stakeholder participation. Particular attention will ensure gender-sensitive and inclusive participation of indigenous and local communities through technology transfer, training, public forums, and a lessons-learned process.
