Abstract:

For the last two centuries, nationalism has affected the fate of almost all the earth and has created permanent transformations in the identity of societies. In this respect, nationalism has revealed the disintegration of large structures such as empires and each pieces had the tendency to unite in terms of the characteristics of own small structures. Thus, the definition of identity, which was previously carried out on religion, is now being made with the nation. As a matter of fact, as non-Muslims rebelled against the Ottoman Empire, Muslim nations also tried to leave the state in order to establish their national state structure. Therefore, in our region the Arabs, Turks and Persians, have established national state structures, but the Kurds, which is the fourth biggest nation did not have any nation-state because they remained at the intersections of the four nation-states. On the other hand, although it is not widespread among the Kurds, it is noticed that the movement of nationalism started a century ago. Especially in the last half-century, leftist movements growing out of Kurdish nationalism, both abroad and in Turkey and Kurdish nationalism has spread out in a huge area. After the 12 September 1980 coup, Kurdish politicians, intellectuals and writers were forced to leave the country and take shelter in Sweden. Sweden's culture and immigration policies are the main rationale for this flow. Furthermore, the works carried out by the writers and intellectuals who went to Sweden especially in the field of literature and culture have prepared the ground for Kurdish immigrants to settle in the country. In addition, the national identity and consciousness that developed in Sweden by hundred thousand Kurds is noteworthy. In the Swedish Kurdish Diaspora, the possibilities of nationalism and its types and social life conditions are tried to be understood in this research. In this context, interviews were conducted with the Kurds living in Sweden and also the Kurdish literature was examined. As a result, in the example of Swedish Kurds, it is aimed to reveal nationalist tendencies and constructive identity connotations.
