Abstract:

The construction sector is one of the sectors where occupational accidents and occupational diseases are the most experienced. Occupational accidents and occupational diseases can be prevented with preventive approaches within the scope of occupational health and safety practices. Some of the occupational accidents are due to unsafe conditions in the working environment. However, a large part of it is due to the unsafe behavior of the employees. Apart from the measures taken by the employer within the scope of occupational health and safety against risks and dangers and the fulfillment of legal obligations, it is very important that the employees have a sufficient level of awareness. The subject of this research is to examine the awareness of the workers in the construction sector about occupational health and safety in Turkey. With the survey conducted within the scope of this study, it was examined that how the perception of occupational health and safety of employees who works in different scale construction sites in Ankara differs for various variables. As a result of the research, a significant relationship was found between the education level of the participants, position on the construction site, the size of the construction site, having a professional qualification certificate and getting occupational health and safety training and the parameters of occupational health and safety awareness.
