Özet:
The purpose of this study was to explain the socio-demographic characteristics and working conditions of those who were exposed to an occupational accident in 2018 and 2019, also to determine the type of occupational accident, to calculate incidence rate of occupational injuries and accident likelihood in a hospital affiliated to the Turkish Ministry of Health. The problem statement of this study was to define a proactive management approach framework for occupational injuries based on participants' views on their experiences with an occupational accident. In accordance with the sequential explanatory mixed research design, data on occupational accidents in the hospital were collected by accessing multiple and complementary data sources. There were 69 occupational accidents and I interviewed 63 participants who exposed to an occupational injury. Participants with graduate education background and female workers were exposed to fewer occupational accidents. Most of the occupational accidents occurred with cutting and piercing materials. Participants lost an average of 1 working day for notification and other procedures after exposure to occupational injury. Managerial decisions should be taken with a holistic and evidence-based approach, considering all factors affecting occupational safety and employee health in hospitals including employees.
