Abstract

In contrast to the adult population, mandibular fractures are comparatively rare in children. In the 0- to 1-year-old age group (infants), the frequency has been reported to range from 0.9% to 2.6% and tends to increase with age.(1) Although there have been a number of articles written on the management of fractures 2, in children, little has been written on the neonates.(2-5) A review of the literature since 1943 showed only 9 cases. The cause of the fracture was traumatic delivery in 6, high-velocity automobile accident in 1, attempted infanticide in 1, and cesarean section in 1.(1,6-10)
